Helping an Industrial Client Reinvent their Core Business

Reinvented operational process planning for an industrial leader, increasing precision and safety

mining redefined

The Story

The client needed help to not only digitize their main product but also their workflow, increase the quality of operational processes, and reduce reliance on field experts. Symphony engineered a software solution for creating, simulating, and optimizing operational plans based on the given input parameters. We also developed a tool for tailored reporting on executed activities based on both the company’s needs and government legislation.

About the project

Reinvented operational process planning for an industrial leader, increasing precision and safety.

The project as it stands today had three distinct phases.

MVP: Proving viability and budget approval

The goal of the first phase was to test the assumptions about the viability of the proposed product and secure budget approval, and as such, the emphasis was on providing something tangible rather than establishing a bulletproof architecture or SDLC processes.

Team scaling and code rewrite

Once we proved both the business and technical viability and secured the development budget, we scaled the team from 4 to 20 engineers to rewrite the application from a monolithic architecture to microservices.

Team and project growth

The third phase: a large growth in team size, and stabilization of the SDLC processes.

The business unit became a key differentiator for the client once we went from a concept and an MVP to having a Center of Digital Excellence – a fully-fledged digital product development center serving North America and Australia.

The outcome

  • Dropped delivery time from weeks to days
  • Reduced AWS costs by 50%
